How much exercise for my puppy
I am about to take on a 10 week old springer and have heard from different people how much exercise, or not, they actually can have. I understand that they are only fully grown at 18 months and there exercise should be limited until then, I am not too sure how much exercise she will need in the next few months, I know that too much exercise is bad for puppies and can lead to hip problems but exactly how much is too much Can someone shed some light on to what exercise a puppy should get in say the first 12 months ?
Thanks

Re how much Exercise
Hello Lynn
It is very easy to give a puppy to much exercise .a new Pup is exciting and it is only Human to want to take him/her out and play and show your new pup to everyone, this could lead to to many walks . For a Pup up to Six months old the garden is big enough for him / her to have a run around you will find that after 5-10 minutes playing your pup will have a lie down and sleep ,once the pup has been inoculated a short walk to the park to see and socialise and play with other dogs for around 15 minutes is enough exercise for the young pup , Around 9 months old the daily walk can be extended to around an hour and when your pup turns 12 months old his/her energy will be endless.
Exercise is so important to your Springer not only to keep your dog healthy and fit butalso essential to his/her mental health ,a bored dog will find somthing else to do to get rid of its energy. You will find you look forward to your daily walks whatever the weather and you will be getting exercise also !!!
ps we would love to see a photo when you get your litle puppy ....

I think a simple rule could be when you see the pup out of breath /panting or slowing down its had enough
