How can I stop my 5 month springer jumping on my couch ?

When your dog has jumped up on the couch, take him off and put him on the floor , maybe on his own blanket or rug while saying off. . As soon as he is off the couch, say good boy!. Keep his blanket near the couch so he can be with you and when he lies on it praise / reward him .If you have allowed him to get away with this in the past, it may take many tries before he learns not to jump on the couch

Has your pup been allowed on the couch from being a baby? if so, he doesn't know any different. does he jump on it when you are there or is he allowed to do it when you are out? you need to retrain him when you are around all the time. if he is on the couch when you walk in the room, calmly walk over to him and take him by the collar and get him off the couch. give the 'off' command. when he is on the floor praise him. do this everytime you catch him on the couch. don't shout at him or smack him for jumping on the couch. when you are around and he jumps on the couch tell him firmly 'off' and 'no' and get him down. you may be better having a makeshift bed in the same area - somewhere for him to sit when you are on the couch. he needs to know that he has his own area. if he insists on jumping on the couch you may have to use a distraction. Banging 2 saucepan lids together or some other noise . Always remember to praise him when he doesn't jump up. liz
