RE JUMPING UP AT VISITORS

 Hello Chloe

Your dogs are after attention when jumping up to greet people so the best way to stop it is not to give them the attention, that is until you or your visitors are ready. when they jump up try turning your back to them folding your arms and ignore them , when they are calm and on the floor give them lots of attention and  make a fuss of them , if they start to jump again turn away and ignore them , try to warn visitors that you are trying to train them not to jump up and when they call make sure they continue with the training by ignoring your dogs

hope this helps Paul

RE JUMPING UP AT VISITORS

The reason most dogs and puppies jump up on people is because they are happy and excited to see them! This behavior is usually learned while they are puppies When they come bounding over to greet us, jumping and stretching up to our knees,  we bend down, pick them up and exchange hugs All this time we are training and rewarding the puppy for jumping up. Eventually we decide we don't like this behavior anymore. Our inconsistency perpetuates the problem. Some of the time we tolerate the jumping and ignore it. Other times we reward the behavior by exchanging enthusiastic greetings. But when we're dressed up and the dog's paws are muddy, it's a different story. Reprimanding the dog for jumping up usually does not work. Either the dog misunderstands the reprimand as praise or he gets even more excited and the jumping gets worse

A better solution is to provide them with an alternative greeting to others  ie  sit - stay ( they can not sit - stay and jump at the same time , when they are sitting your visitors can come down to the dogs  level and greet them. Practise this by asking friends to call and before opening the door get your dogs to Sit -Stay , at first the excitement will make it difficult but after repeating this a number of times you should see some improvement, treat your dogs when they are sitting and lots of praise if they stay and do not jump , before asking your dogs to sit and stay in this door opening situation be sure they will sit and stay in a normal , non stressful situation
