AFRAID OF TRAFFIC NOISE

We have recently bought a Springer Spaniel also called Wilson who is nearly 4 months old. wilson is very confident in the home but as soon as we take him outdoors he shakes and trembles. Wilson is scared of the noise from traffic and petrified of others dogs. we have started to introduce him outside on the drive for short periods but pulls on his lead to get back indoors. Wilson is however not to bad in areas such as woods and canals as long as there are no other dogs. I have enrolled him on a puppy training course but their is a 5 week wait, any advice how to get through this would be appreciated as this is traumatic for poor Wilson.

Hello .

Another Wilson    :)

Wilson is still only young and the training classes are wonderful not only from the training aspect but the social aspect wilson will meet lots of other dogs of various shapes and sizes and at different levels of training and varied temperments which is good they need to be able to socialize when walking and meeting other dogs. As to your walking near traffic I would carry on but maybe try to find a quiter road or a less busy time just to start with and build up his confidence ,I would not make a fuss when say a bus roars passed dont bend and comfort him or he will realizse that there is somthing to be afraid of just a strong 'good boy Wilson !' when the bus goes passed or as you see somthing approaching talk to him to distract him ,as Wilson matures Im sure he will become braver as he explores the outside world

hope this helps
