Hi My wife & I have not long fetched home a puppy springer and what a joy she is . I can say that because while I am typing this post she is having one of her quiet moments. Honey is the name of the pup . If there is any good advice that can be given about our first springer it would be most welcome. There is one problem that comes to mind & that is she tends to get up earlier than we do, (any suggestions?) also what food would be suitable.
Thanks Peter and June
RE WAKING UP TO EARLY
Hello Peter & June you didn't say how old Honey is but I would imagine as she goes out for walks ( lots of walks) she will get tired and hopefully sleep longer for you for the moment lots of play and dont let her tell you its time to get up, if you have to, let her out then put her back to bed , dont give in to her , Wilson only had a couple of bad nights and he was fine almost no house training needed , when he was a small pup he was fed weetabix then pedigree dry puppy food , have fun
Paul
Hi Peter and June. How old is Honey ? When Wilson first came home, he would wake up quite early, howling for us ! however, we didn't go to him straightaway as we didn't want him to think that as soon as he howled we would be there. As he got abit older he didn't howl at all and we managed to have a lie-in at the weekend ! Also, as Paul says the more exercise he gets, he should be more tired and sleep longer. At first we used to leave a lamp on and the radio (he sleeps in the kitchen) and now he sleeps in the dark and without the radio. He knows when it is bedtime as soon as I turn the television off and he will go straight to his bed. I always give him a kiss and hug and he always has a little toy. We started Wilson off on weetabix then gradually changed to pedigree complete puppy food. Lately I have got the feeling that he is abit bored with this and have started to add a little bit of pedigree puppy pouch selection. He wolfs it down ! Have you read Yvonne Billows' book about springer spaniels? it's brilliant ! You will get a lot of good advice in this book.
Good luck with Honey ! Liz
RE WAKING UP TO EARLY
Just a piece of useful info, dont worry about getting up quick in the morning to let your dog out for a wee/poo as a dog can hold themselves for over 12 hours, dogs choose when to wee and poo it is a teritorial thing.
