RE WALKING ROUND IN CIRCLES
Hi Bek.
I have spoken to a friend of mine who is 'up on dogs' and she thinks that maybe your dog could need it's anal glands emptying. It might be worth a trip to the vets to check that this is not a physical problem.
I thought that it may be an anxious thing. You don't say how long he has been with you or the circumstances under which you have fostered him. Is he missing his other family? Has he any familiar things with him - his bed / toys etc. Has his food changed? Is there a trigger for this behaviour? Is it when he knows you are due to go out? Maybe he worries that you won't come back? If you think this is the case, try leaving him in the kitchen with the door shut for 5 minutes while you go off into another room. Do this very 'matter of factly' then return. Don't make a fuss. Do this several times, lengthening the time in between. He needs to trust that you will come back to him.
Other than that, I would ignore the whining (as long as you know it is not a physical disorder) and then when he has stopped give him lots of praise and cuddles. If it continues you may have to see your vet. Hope this helps. Liz
RE WALKING ROUND IN CIRCLES,
Yes I agree my dog suffers from anal gland probs and he throws his bottom on the floor very quickly as though he has had a shock!
Also is your dog male or female ?as my female does this but it is when she is having a phantom pregnancy, she also carries around her ball crying.this happens a couple of times a year.
