WILSON THE SPRINGER

English Springer Spaniel

WILSONS 3rd SHOW

BACK TO SHOW PAGE

Wilson's 3rd show was his best to date. We saw a big improvement in him this time, so all the practising must be paying off and finally Wilson seems to be getting the idea. The show was held at Sutton sports center St Helens on Monday 7/05/07. Wilson was entered in the English Springer Spaniels Junior class and the Post Graduate class. In the Junior class there were seven entries but only four being shown ;  in the Post graduate class there were five entries Wilson was classed as a "seen" dog in the Post Graduate class as the Judge, Mr G Cunliffe would have already seen him in the Junior class. This was a busy show and we met quite a few familiar faces from previous shows.

Wilson's classes were eventually held outside as it was deemed  the floor was too slippy for the dogs, I thought this would be better for Wilson (being outside would not be as loud and busy as his previous shows and most of his training is done outside) He was very good waiting for his classes to start with the other springers and we both seemed more at ease this time. We were called in and given our numbers and it was time for Wilson to "stand" !

I thought he would repeat his previous shows and keep turning around and trying to sit down but no! Wilson stood maybe not perfect but he was standing and I was very pleased with him - he had never stood in a show before ...... we slowly moved up the line and Wilson needed the toilet !! he just could not wait, what a time and place to do it , luckily it was not his turn to be judged and all was cleaned up as quickley as possible then it was our turn we went forward to the judge and Wilson stood again it may not have been perfect but in my eyes what a big improvment. The judge looked him over and we walked up and down then around and joined the end of the line, I had to try to keep Wilson's attention he had been so good so far could he make it through the show? then it was time for one final look over the Springers by the Judge so he had to stand again then the judge went over to one springer ...1st place  then another 2nd place then he walked over to Wilson 3rd Place !   (scroll down for more..)

Wilson had actually been placed , I was so pleased with him....

Then it was time for the Post Graduate class and Wilson and I had to go and stand to one side on our own as he had already been seen by the judge, I found this hard as Wilson wanted to go with the other dogs and it was difficult to keep his attention while the other dogs were being seen it seemed like an eternity I personally didnt see any harm in Wilson lining up and standing and once more for the judge it would have been more experience for Wilson and myself in a show situation but rules are rules when all the other dogs had been seen Wilson was asked to walk around again and join the line this time however the judge picked the first three, the reserve and wilson was in 5th position (VHC) but I was not suprised at this as Wilson had lost his concentration at this stage it had been a little to long for him but over all we were very pleased with the result and the Judge Mr G Cunliffe remarked that Wilson had improved 'in leaps and bounds' since his previous shows !!
